Melanie von Bertouch

Director / Speech Pathologist

Melanie graduated from Newcastle University in 2002.

She moved to Townsville in 2009 and opened Coastal Kids Speech Pathology in 2010.

Melanie currently splits her time between working with clients, and running the business, including supporting her team in the amazing work that they do.

Outside of the clinic, Mel is a mum to two amazing teenagers and 2 rescue greyhounds.

Her favourite things are reading, and playing team sports like netball and cricket.

Sara Hiatt

Practice Manager

Sara has been a  been part of the Coastal Kids team for over 8 years, starting out in admin and gradually moving into her current role as Practice Manager.

She first got interested in the world of allied health when her son began speech therapy, and it’s been a rewarding journey ever since.

Sara loves getting to know our families and seeing them grow and achieve their goals.

When not at work, you’ll usually find her outdoors walking her Border Collie, Willow, or catching up with friends over a good coffee.

Jasmine Diplock

Speech Pathologist

Jasmine, known as ‘Jaz’ around the clinic, grew up in Mackay and Townsville and graduated from James Cook University in 2019.

She enjoys working across the lifespan with special interests in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and early language development.

Outside of work, Jaz loves travelling, adventuring outdoors, painting, and spending time with friends/family and her furbaby Tank. Jasmine has been a part of the Coastal Kids team since 2022.

Holly Parker-Blanch

Speech Pathologist

Holly was born and raised in Townsville and has graduated from JCU in 2020 with her Bachelor of Speech Pathology.

Holly has interest in treating children who require help with their phonological awareness and literacy skills.

Currently Holly has completed the following Training/workshops:

  • Sounds – Write (Literacy programme)
  • Working with young children with ASD
  • SOS Feeding Therapy

Holly is committed to servicing children with the most current evidence based practice and strives to see gains in the children she provides therapy for.

Holly works full time Monday to Friday and has been with Coastal Kids since 2019.

Samantha Jeffery

Speech Pathologist

Sam grew up in Rockhampton and completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) at CQUniversity in 2018. After graduating, she started working in private practice in the Gladstone region then relocated to Townsville in 2022.

Sam is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist and member of Speech Pathology Australia. She enjoys the diversity that private practice has to offer and is passionate about using evidence-based therapy approaches in a fun and meaningful way to support clients and their families to meet their goals.

Sam has undertaken training in the following workshops:

  • SOS Approach to Feeding
  • Hanen It Takes Two to Talk
  • Sounds-Write Literacy Program

Sam currently works two days a week, and has been with Coastal Kids since 2022.

Charlotte Papp

Speech Pathologist

Charlotte is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist and graduated from James Cook University in Townsville in 2013.

She is proud to have been a part of the Coastal Kids team since 2017 and works part-time on Thursdays and Fridays.

Charlotte enjoys working across all areas of communication but has a strong interest in working closely with families to ensure they feel in control of and satisfied with their therapy journey and empowered to support their children’s communication beyond the clinic.

Charlotte loves time with her new family in nature and the simple things in life. She is currently on maternity leave.

Jenna Siandri

Speech Pathologist

Jenna grew up in Townsville and graduated from James Cook University in 2022.

She enjoys working across the lifespan in many different areas across speech pathology. Speech pathology offers so much diversity and variety! Jenna is passionate about supporting her families and clients to achieve their goals whilst having fun and implementing neuro-affirming practices.

On the weekend, you’ll find Jenna out and about catching up with friends and family, playing soccer, hanging out with her two doggos, or curled up reading a good book!

You’ll catch Jenna in the clinic Monday to Wednesday, and visiting clients at their schools and kindy centres on Thursday and Friday.

Emma McLean

Occupational Therapist

Emma graduated from James Cook University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and has worked in the private paediatric sector in Townsville ever since.

She has a strong passion for supporting children and their families, and finds joy in celebrating the small wins — knowing that over time, these meaningful moments accumulate to create everyday changes in a child’s life.

Emma has a special interest in helping children develop independence in their daily routines, including toileting, dressing, and sleep.

She also offers feeding therapy using the SOS Approach to Feeding, supporting children to explore and enjoy a greater variety of foods in a positive, low-pressure way.

Her calm, compassionate nature and playful approach help children feel safe, supported, and confident as they grow and achieve their goals.

Julie de Jongh

Customer Service

Julie has been with Coastal Kids for over 2 years.

She is semi-retired and absolutely loves being part of a team that works with kids—it’s such a joy to see their smiling faces and watch the progress they make.

When not at work, Julie enjoys spending time with her family and hanging out with her fur baby, Rosie.

Sophie Keyse

Allied Health Assistant

Sophie is currently studying Speech Pathology at James Cook University and works as an Allied Health Assistant at the clinic.

She loves getting to know clients and being part of their journey as they grow and achieve their goals.

Outside of work and study, Sophie enjoys baking, spending time with her dog and cats, and going to concerts with friends.

Ebonie Mewett

Allied Health Assistant

Ebonie is a born and bred Townsville girl who is currently studying her Bachelor of Speech Pathology at James Cook University.

Ebonie chose speech pathology because she is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children of all ages and aims to support children to succeed from their own hard work.

In her spare time, Ebonie enjoys hanging out with her cats, rock climbing with friends, and scrapbooking her travels. Ebonie has completed her Sounds-Write training.
